Incorporating Vastu principles
VASTU SHASTRA
Vastu Shastra is an ancient Indian architectural and design system that aims to seamlessly integrate nature with the built environment using prescribed principles of layout, measurement, design and space arrangement.
For optimal health and wellbeing of the resident, it is important that their home is in constant interaction with the five elements of nature, Fire, Earth, Water, Wind and Space (ether).
In our design process, we ensure that there is a harmony between the built structure and the elements.
The core principles of Vastu are as follows:
THE FIVE ELEMENTS
The five elements impact the human being living in the house as follows:
Earth: Stability and support
Water: Purity and flow
Fire: Energy and transformation
Air: Movement and freshness
Space: Expansion and openness
DIRECTIONS AND ORIENTATION
Vastu emphasises the significance of directions, with each direction believed to have its own energy characteristics. Orientating the home according to the cardinal directions is crucial for maximising positive energy flow and minimising negative influences.
NATURAL MATERIALS
Incorporating natural elements and materials like wood, stone, and clay, hemp, straw is encouraged in Vastu design. These materials are in harmony with the surrounding nature, hence they bring sense of peace and tranquility to the home owner. Natural materials also enhance the aesthetic appeal and sustainability of the space.
IMPORTANCE OF OPEN SPACES
It is very important for homes to have large open spaces and plenty of windows to allow for ventilation. This allows for the free flow of air and natural light, promoting a healthy and vibrant environment within the space. Proper ventilation helps in maintaining air quality and freshness.
